Inside the fallout from Tiger Woods' latest DUI car smash

BLEARY-EYED after spending eight hours behind bars, Tiger Woods might have expected a little sympathy when he finally arrived home.

Instead, the shamed golfing legend was met by his furious girlfriend, Vanessa Trump — former daughter-in-law of the US President — who is said to have been mortified by his latest car crash and charge for driving under the influence.

While many of Tiger’s inner circle are closing ranks following his arrest on Friday, Vanessa has told friends she is “disappointed and angry” and has banned him from driving her five children.

Now Tiger, 50, is fighting to rescue his rocky romance as well as his public reputation, which lies in tatters once again.

A Florida-based source close to Vanessa, 48, revealed there are tensions simmering between the couple, saying: “She is absolutely mortified.

“Vanessa is pretty sensitive about bad publicity given her famous surname, so this is the last thing she needs right now.

‘Definite red flag’

“Although she was married to Donald Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr, for 13 years, Vanessa actually tends to keep a pretty low profile.

“So when she and Tiger first got together he swore blind he was getting his life back on track and all his problems were behind him.

“She is really into fitness and healthy living so any suggestion that he is drinking or back on prescription medication again will make her mad.

“Right now they are talking, and she is listening, but she won’t stand for another wrong move. He needs to tread very, very carefully.”

Tiger flipped his Range Rover as he attempted to overtake a truck at high speed last week. He passed a breathalyser test but refused to give a urine sample.

He was charged with driving under the influence and was kept in jail for the legal minimum of eight hours.

He was later bailed out by a friend, who drove him back to his £33million Florida mansion — with his tail firmly between his legs.

“He was apologetic but Vanessa has ordered him to get things under control fast or she’s not going to stick around,” added the source.

“This is humiliating. She has made her feelings abundantly clear. It’s a definite red flag.

“Tiger wants Vanessa to trust him and not judge him on prior behaviour. But the more serious they get, the more fearful she becomes that Tiger will slide back into bad habits and self-sabotage.”

Just days before the crash, Vanessa had proudly wrapped her arms around Tiger’s neck and the couple nuzzled and kissed for the cameras as they celebrated his return to golf at the TGL finals in Florida.

But it has emerged that problems were already lurking in the relationship, as she secretly feared he might cheat again.

“She’s kind of insecure when it comes to him and other women,” another source claimed.

“So Vanessa follows Tiger everywhere and checks up on him and what he’s up to through mutual friends when they’re not together.

“He’s cheated in relationships before, so there’s every chance he could do it again.

“Some people never change.”

Since the pair met at Thanksgiving 2024, and started dating last March, she has been seen supporting him at several golfing events.

Vanessa has yet to comment on the latest drama, however.

She posted two stories on her Instagram account on Saturday without mentioning it. Instead, she simply highlighted a trip to the Miami Open tennis by her eldest daughter Kai, who is also a promising golfer.

But this is certainly not the first time the former world champion has risked it all.

In 2017, he was charged with driving under the influence after cops found him unconscious at the wheel of his Mercedes.

He later pleaded guilty to reckless driving after it emerged he had a cocktail of five different prescription drugs in his system. He also entered rehab for drug dependency.

And in 2021, he needed emergency surgery after suffering multiple leg injuries in a near-fatal car crash.

But the most notorious incident, and the one believed to be troubling Vanessa the most, was when he crashed into a fire hydrant in 2009.

Tiger’s then-wife Elin Nordegren had discovered he was cheating on her with nightclub hostess Rachel Uchitel, after she found a text from him to her that read: “You are the only one I’ve ever loved.”

She then chased her husband out of the house, furiously brandishing one of his golf clubs.

Attempting to flee in his Cadillac Escalade SUV, Woods hit a fire hydrant outside his home and swerved into a tree. The collision left him unconscious for six minutes while Elin smashed the rear windows of the vehicle to pull him free.

The scandal cost him not only his marriage but also millions in endorsement deals as a number of other women, including porn star Holly Sampson, came forward to claim they, too, had been involved with Tiger during his marriage.

Adding fuel to the fire, a waitress named Mindy Lawton publicly claimed that Tiger was “very well endowed”.

Surprisingly, given the ugly nature of their split, Tiger and Elin appear to have recently repaired their friendship for the sake of their two children, daughter Sam, 18, and son, Charlie, 17.

A month ago, they reunited to celebrate budding golfer Charlie’s latest sporting achievement. While he appeared all smiles that day, insiders say Tiger has been highly emotional lately as he is grieving the death of his mother Kultida, who died at the age of 80 last year.

They were said to be extremely close and he described his mum as his “biggest fan and greatest supporter” in a heartbreaking statement at the time.

Kultida had been a “rock” in her son’s life, standing by him as he emerged to win the Masters as a 21-year-old in 1997.

Now those in his close-knit entourage are suggesting that another trip to rehab could be on the cards for the troubled star.

As, surely, will a grovelling apology to Vanessa.
