Alexander-Arnold was spotted abroad as reports emerged about his Liverpool future

Trent Alexander-Arnold was spotted enjoying New Year's away from Merseyside as speculation mounts about his Liverpool future. The 26-year-old from West Derby has continued to impress under new Liverpool head coach Arne Slot, picking up five assists as the team sit top of the Premier League and the Champions League.

However, the right-back’s contract for the Reds expires at the end of this campaign, meaning he could leave his boyhood club on a free transfer. Last night, it was revealed that Liverpool had rejected an approach from Real Madrid about the possibility of signing Alexander-Arnold in the January transfer window.

The Spanish giants have long been linked with a move for the Reds' right-back. Alexander-Arnold has not spoken publicly since this news emerged.

It looks as though he has opted to spend his New Year’s celebrations well away from Merseyside. He and model Estelle Behnke were spotted at the lavish Italian restaurant Regina Corner in Venice.

An Instagram post from Regina Corner yesterday showed the two of them in the restaurant. The accompanying caption said: “Thank you, Trent Alexander and Estelle Behnke, for stopping by Regina Corner Restaurant! We loved having you and hope to see you again soon.”

It has been reported widely that the pair have been dating for several months, with The Mirror saying that the footballer and the influencer stayed at the £1,500-a-night Aman hotel. Liverpool have been in discussions with the 26-year-old and his representatives over a new contract for a number of months. The ECHO understands that as things stand, the player has not communicated to the Reds that he has chosen to join Real Madrid.

Traditionally, New Year’s Day was a big day in the football calendar with multiple fixtures. However, changes to the schedule mean there is only one Premier League game tonight, with Brentford facing Liverpool’s title rivals Arsenal tonight.

This has meant many of Liverpool’s players such as Alexander-Arnold have been able to enjoy a quick holiday before their next match against Manchester United on Sunday. Meanwhile, one Liverpool fan shared a picture of himself with Japanese midfielder Wataru Endo in Barcelona on X/Twitter. Other first-team players, such as Scouser Curtis Jones, enjoyed the New Year festivities in the UK.
