Prasidh Krishna delivered a stunning delivery to dismiss Alex Carey, bringing much-needed relief to the Indian cricket team in the ongoing New Year’s Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in Sydney.

With Jasprit Bumrah off the field and Alex Carey and Beau Webster’s partnership causing frustration on Day 2, Prasidh Krishna stepped up just when India needed a breakthrough in the fifth and final Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

India finds relief as Prasidh Krishna breaks key partnership on Day 2 at SCG

After sticking to shorter deliveries for most of his spell, Prasidh Krishna bowled a slightly fuller ball that wobbled off the seam. Carey left a wide gap between his bat and pad while attempting a defensive shot, allowing the ball to sneak through and crash into the top of the off-stump.

The Indian crowd and the players erupted in joy as Krishna celebrated the wicket that broke the 41-run stand between the Australian debutant Beau Webster and wicketkeeper Alex Carey in the ongoing Sydney Test. Carey had to return back to the pavilion after scoring 21 off 36 balls, including four boundaries.

Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj starred with the ball on Day 2 in the New Year's Test

Prasidh Krishna bowled 15 overs and scalped three wickets while conceding 42 runs to help India restrict Australia to 181 runs on Day 2 in reply to the tourists’ 185 in the first innings in the ongoing New Year’s Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

Even without Jasprit Bumrah, Team India put up a strong performance to secure a small but vital lead in the ongoing final BGT 2024-25 Test against Australia at the SCG. Krishna was the standout bowler, playing a key role by breaking two crucial partnerships.

He dismissed Steve Smith (33) and Alex Carey (21) and also removed Beau Webster, the only player to score a half-century so far in the ongoing New Year’s Test at the SCG. Mohammed Siraj was also impressive with the ball, taking three wickets to help India bundle Australia out for 181.

Apart from Siraj and Prasidh, Nitish Kumar Reddy also chipped in with two important wickets, helping to wrap up the Australian innings as soon as possible. It was a collective effort that put the team in a strong position despite Bumrah's absence, as the stand-in skipper is in the hospital to undergo a scan.

SCG witnesses rare feat as both India and Austarlia get out for under 200

Notably, for just the second time in the last 70 years at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), both teams have been bowled out for under 200 in their first innings in Test cricket. The first instance took place during the 1979/80 Test between England (123) and Australia (145) at the SCG.

Earlier, Jasprit Bumrah made history by becoming the Indian bowler with the most wickets in a Test series in Australia. The star pacer achieved this milestone on Day 2 of the fifth Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), dismissing Marnus Labuschagne with the help of DRS.

Marnus Labuschagne’s wicket brought Bumrah’s tally to 32 wickets in the ongoing Test series, surpassing Bishan Singh Bedi's record of 31 wickets set in the 1977-78 series in Australia.
