Former England manager Sam Allardyce believes that Manchester United could target another head coach instead of Brazil boss Carlo Ancelotti this summer.

Carlo Ancelotti has now been linked with the Red Devils amid Ineos’ pursuit of a new permanent Manchester United manager to succeed Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.

Prove me wrong… Carlo Ancelotti should be Ineos’ top option to become permanent manager this summer!

Do you think Ancelotti would be a success? Do we stand a chance of getting him?

The 66-year-old Italian manager is currently preparing for Brazil’s upcoming campaign at the 2026 World Cup in North America this summer.

Ancelotti was appointed Brazil head coach last summer after leaving Real Madrid and the former Los Blancos boss led the five-time champions to World Cup qualification.

‘Don’ Carlo is familiar with United players as well and has worked closely with Casemiro for club and country and with Matheus Cunha for the Brazil national team.

“He went to Everton, he’s been to Chelsea,” he said on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast.

Responding to ‘Big’ Sam, Rene Meulensteen pointed out that Ancelotti could be a difficult target for Man Utd to land in a timely manner because of the World Cup.

What is YOUR biggest reason to feel positive about Manchester United right now?

“It would be difficult one, anyway, because he’s obviously with Brazil,” he said.

Reacting to Meulensteen’s assessment, Allardyce added: “Yeah, but the World Cup’s over, isn’t it?”

Meulensteen, who was a key figure during the later stages of Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign, added that an Ancelotti appointment could cause another key issue.

“Yeah, but then again, you miss out on the whole pre-season again,” he told Allardyce.

Ancelotti is not the only World Cup-bound manager who has been linked with the Red Devils, with England boss Thomas Tuchel also being attached to the role.

Former West Ham boss Allardyce believes that Newcastle manager Eddie Howe should be considered for the Man Utd position if Ancelotti cannot be secured.

“Eddie Howe, then, if you can’t do it now, give it to Eddie Howe.”
