Pep Guardiola axes THREE Man City stars vs Tottenham to leave futures in doubt

Pep Guardiola's Manchester City selections are likely to see Ederson question his next move as the Brazilian is left on the bench whilst Manuel Akanji isn't good enough for the squad

Pep Guardiola has overlooked Ederson once again as he picked his Manchester City XI - which has cast doubt over the future of his goalkeeper as well as Ilkay Gundogan and Manuel Akanji.

The Premier League side are at the Etihad for the first time this season, looking to build on their 4-0 rout at Wolves last weekend. James Trafford retained his place in goal meaning Ederson had to make do with a spot on the bench once again.

The Brazilian has been City's No 1 for the best part of a decade, but Trafford's arrival has changed the landscape and Ederson faces a decision on his future.

Ederson missed last weekend's match officially due to illness, but City are open to letting him leave with Galatasaray reportedly pushing to sign him. The 32-year-old has kept 168 clean sheets for Guardiola's side since joining for £35m from Benfica in 2017.

The Brazilian has been integral to the success achieved, winning 15 trophies. One of those was the Champions League in 2023 and he's also claimed six Premier League titles.

Gundogan is another man with a storied history in Manchester, but the German's second coming at the club continues to be challenging and he isn't even included in the matchday squad. Manuel Akanji is also overlooked completely.

Guardiola named a bench that includes the likes of Nathan Ake, Abdukodir Khusanov, Rodri and Matheus Nunes. Gundogan triggered a contract extension last season with the amount of game time he managed for City and has maintained that he wants to remain at the club.

However, the arrivals of Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders, who both scored on their debuts at Molineux, are set to see Gundogan fall down the pecking order. Phil Foden is not even picked to start the clash with Tottenham.

Galatasaray are also keen on Akanji and the interest was not immediately dismissed this week by the player's camp, reports the MEN. Guardiola has confessed that, following their summer business, his squad is too big.

He said: "[It's] too much -- too many people. I like a deep squad to compete in all competitions, but I don't want to leave players at home. It's not healthy. You cannot create a good vibe or atmosphere to compete."
