World number three Coco Gauff takes on Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen on Thursday (15 May) for a place in the Italian Open tennis final.

Gauff enjoyed a strong start to her clay-court campaign when reaching the final of the Madrid Open, where the American lost to Aryna Sabalenka.

The 21-year-old has defeated Emma Raducanu and seventh seed Mirra Andreeva to reach the women’s singles semi-finals in Rome for a second consecutive year.

Zheng meanwhile lost to Gauff in the Italian Open quarter-finals last year, but the Paris 2024 gold medallist heads into this clash on the back of a huge victory.

The 22-year-old beat Sabalenka for the first time in her career on Wednesday, ending her six-match losing streak against the world number one with an impressive straight-sets win to make the last four at the Italian Open for the very first time.
