No. 3 Buckeyes Post 4-1 Win at No. 17 Michigan

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 3 ranked Ohio State women's tennis team notched its second win over rival Michigan this season, downing the No. 17 Wolverines 4-1 Wednesday in Ann Arbor, Mich., in a nonconference match.

The Buckeyes, now 15-3 (6-1 B1G), claimed the doubles point to open the match against Michigan (10-6, 7-1 B1G). Teah Chavez and Luciana Perry both won Top 25 ranked matchups in straight sets for a 3-0 Buckeye lead. Michigan took the next match, but Audrey Spencer sealed the Buckeye victory with a straight set win. Spencer is 12-0 in dual matches this spring. In a Big Ten match, Ohio State defeated Michigan 4-1 in Columbus March 6.

How it Happened

The Buckeyes captured the doubles point for the 1-0 lead.

On court two, the duo of Flora Johnson and Luciana Perry rolled to a 6-1 win.

After Michigan took court one, 6-3, Buckeyes Sophia Cisse-Ignatiev and Audrey Spencer clinched the point with a 6-3 victory, winning six of the last seven games.

Ohio State raced out to a 3-0 lead with straight set wins on the top two courts, with all four players ranked in the Top 25.

On court one, No. 4-ranked Teah Chavez defeated No. 6 Piper Charney, 6-3, 6-2. No. 5 Luciana Perry followed with a 6-2, 7-5 win on court two against No. 22 Lily Jones.

Michigan's Reese Miller took a close match on court three against Cisse-Ignatiev, 7-5, 7-6 (4) for a 3-1 team score.

No. 114 Spencer clinched the Buckeye victory, downing Emily Sartz-Lunde on court five in straight sets. The Buckeye won the first set in a tiebreak, 10-8. In the second set, Spencer claimed the final three games for a 7-5 victory.

The matches on courts four and six were abandoned in the third set. On court four, Nao Nishino was on serve 2-3, while on court six Hephzibah Oluwadare led 5-3 in her third set.

Spencer is 12-0 this spring to lead the Buckeyes. Chavez is 11-1, with Perry 10-2.
