Sunday Oliseh, former Super Eagles captain and head coach, says he gets frustrated watching Michael Olise play for France when he should be representing Nigeria.Oliseh spoke in a recent episode of the Global Football Insights Podcast.Olise, who plays for Bayern Munich, was born in London to a Nigerian father and a Franco-Algerian mother. The 24-year-old winger was eligible to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, the Algerian national team, England and France. He chose the French team in 2019.The winger is currently one of the best players in the world with over 30 goal contributions for both club and country this season.Speaking on the French player’s form, Oliseh said he gets “angry” when he sees the young man represent France instead of Nigeria.“When I see the way Olise plays, I love it. But it gets me angry that I am saying Olise should not be wearing the French national team jersey; he should be wearing the green-white-green jersey of Nigeria,” the former Eagles head coach said.Oliseh clarified a minor misconception about his relationship with Olise, stemming from the similarity of their names.“This is why our people are funny. Some even sent messages asking why I sabotaged us—’ Your son went to play for France,'” Oliseh said.“He’s not my son, and his own Olise does not even have an ‘h’ at the end of it.”Olise will be in action for Bayern Munich on Wednesday when they take on Real Madrid in the second leg of their quarter-final clash. The German side won the first leg 2-1.
