Eastrington Cricket Club looks to raise £100k for new pavilion

Members of a cricket club in an East Yorkshire village are appealing for help to build a new pavilion.

The current building at Eastrington Cricket Club, built in the 1970s, "is in a dreadful state of repair", the club's Rachel Benton said.

"I think the only thing keeping it up at the moment is love, and the tiles behind the kitchen sink," she said.

The club needs to raise £100,000 for the work.

In an interview with BBC Radio Humberside, Benton said: "I don't think we are going to get much more than another year out of it.

"It has been brilliant for the 50 or so years it has been there, and it's certainly full of love for cricket when you go in, but you only have to walk around the back of the building to see it really is in a very, very poor state.

"It is falling apart."

The pavilion is named after Mick Hornsby, 94, who raised £500 for its construction.

Benton said Hornsby, who started playing cricket when he was 13, was "at the heart of everything we do".

"We want to get a new pavilion built for Mick because he is just so special," she added.

"It's named after him and it always will be."
