CSK writes to BCCI over 'Dosa Idly' song jibe at Chinnaswamy during RCB clash

Chennai Super Kings have reportedly written to the Board of Control for Cricket in India over the music and remarks played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium during their IPL 2026 clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 5.

According to a report by The Indian Express, the franchise took exception to the playing of the track ‘Dosa, Idly, Sambar, Chutney’, a song by Gana Appu that has often been used in meme culture around South Indian stereotypes. CSK also raised concerns about certain accompanying comments and meme references, which they felt were not in good taste during the match.

An IPL official confirmed that the complaint has been received and is under review, with the governing council expected to examine the matter. CSK managing director Kasi Viswanathan said the environment at the Chinnaswamy stood out compared to typical away fixtures.

“The DJs are usually around to support the home team. But at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, it was different. Certain comments were made against our players. Considering it, we have written to the BCCI to have a look into it,” Viswanathan said.

Previous incident adds context

The controversy also has some recent history. During the previous IPL season, the same track gained traction after RCB wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma referenced it ahead of a game in Chennai. In that match, the DJ at Chepauk played the song when Sharma was dismissed, which drew reactions from fans.

Following that episode, CSK’s management reportedly introduced clearer guidelines to ensure that DJs avoid targeting opposition players or fans. “After that incident, there hasn’t been any repeat of it. The DJ isn’t supposed to make any comment on the opposition players,” Viswanathan added, while also pointing to the franchise’s fan culture.

Rivalry under the spotlight

Beyond the song itself, CSK are understood to be unhappy with certain remarks made over the public address system during the April 5 game, although the specifics remain unclear. The franchise believes that DJs should focus on creating a positive atmosphere rather than undermining rivals.

The episode adds another chapter to the growing intensity of the CSK and RCB rivalry, which has seen heightened emotions in recent seasons both on and off the field.
