Gael Monfils outlined what is most important to him in life after reaching the Australian Open fourth round.

The 38-year-old produced a vintage display to end Taylor Fritz’s campaign Down Under following a three-hour contest.

He danced for joy and roared with delight following one of the biggest wins in the latter stages of his career.

Monfils became the oldest player to defeat an opponent ranked inside the top five at the Australian Open since the ATP Tour rankings began, and he does not want to stop here.

Does Gael Monfils think he can win the Australian Open?

Monfils has reached the fourth round of the Australian Open for the first time since 2020 following his shock win over Fritz.

Despite being in his late thirties the veteran is still playing at a very high level and entertaining the thousands of fans that come to watch him play.

The Frenchman has accomplished plenty throughout his historic career, but he has not reached a Grand Slam final or won a major.

He was asked if he can go all the way and win the tournament, but that is the last thing on Monfils’ mind.

“Win? No, you know, to be honest with you, it is not even a dream to win the tournament,” he said. “My dream is to be old and with a lot of kids and healthy.”
