Uibh Laoire have moved back to the top of the McCarthy Insurance Group Division 2 Football League after a big victory over Béal Átha’n Ghaorthaidh at the weekend.

It was Round 5 across the seven divisions as we reach the halfway stage of the league campaign, with teams either battling for promotion or trying to avoid the trap door.

In Division 1, there were wins for Nemo Rangers, Clonakilty, Douglas and Carbery Rangers, with reports on all of those games attached at the start of this article.

Uibh Laoire put down a bit of a marker after winning away to their local rivals Béal Átha’n Ghaorthaidh, 6-10 to 0-15, in Division 2.

There was no single standout performer, with ten different scorers for John McNulty’s charges. Adrian O’Dea, Ian Jones, Oisín Herlihy, Jack Sweeney, Conor O’Leary and Brian Cronin all raised green flags.

Ballincollig and Dohenys remain firmly in the hunt for promotion. The Village are joint-second with Carrigaline after a late Cian Ahern point ensured they shared the spoils at home to Dohenys, 0-16 to 2-10.

Dara Dorgan starred for Ballincollig with 0-9, including two two-pointers. The away side sit two points further back.

At the other end, Valley Rovers picked up their first win of the campaign with a 2-11 to 1-6 victory over St Michael’s in Mahon.

Seán McEntee top scored with 0-3 (0-2 f), while Eoghan Delaney and Cian O’Keeffe netted the goals.

In Division 3, in the top-of-the-table clash, Bishopstown defeated visitors Kanturk, 1-16 to 0-12.

Both teams had entered the game on six points, but the Town came good in the second half to prevail. Jack Tompkins, Kieran McFadden, Jack Murphy, Kevin Murphy, Mark Scally and Conor Dunne were among the point scorers, while Neil Crowley’s well-taken goal went a long way towards securing the win.

Aghabullogue are level at the summit with Bishopstown after the Muskerry outfit proved too strong for Fermoy in Coachford, winning 3-11 to 1-8.

After defeat on the opening day, Aghabullogue are ticking along nicely under interim manager Peter Keane, having now recorded four straight victories.

Naomh Abán are just a point behind the joint-leaders after their home win over Bandon, 1-14 to 0-11.

Ed Myers was to the fore with 0-8, while Colm Murphy raised the green flag.

In Division 4, Glanmire are level with Nemo Rangers’ second team at the top on seven points after beating them away from home.

Mark Hopkins’ side were spearheaded by youngster Harry Browne, who hit 2-5 as they won 2-15 to 2-13.

Cork’s 2010 All-Ireland winner Paul Kerrigan landed 1-9 for Nemo as he showed that he still has that class.

There was a standout result further down the divisions as Carbery Rangers’ second team beat Donoughmore in Rosscarbery, 1-11 to 0-10. The home side sit top of Division 7 on nine points after five games.
