Liverpool transfer news: Van Dijk ‘in talks’ over blockbuster move as Reds target Bayern star

1
Liverpool enjoyed a brilliant day on Saturday, as Darwin Nunez’s dramatic brace gave them a 2-0 win over Brentford.

The Reds are now six points clear at the top of the Premier League after Arsenal were held to a 2-2 draw by Aston Villa, despite having gone 2-0 up. Arne Slot ’s side had 35 shots without success before Nunez netted with the 36th and 37th in west London to spark jubilant scenes on the bench.

With a game in hand over their rivals, things are looking rosy for Liverpool, who are in pole position at the top of the pile. But they might still be tempted to make use of the January transfer window, which could strengthen their hand even more.

Here are the latest rumours involving Liverpool, who are already looking ahead to the summer transfer window.

Van Dijk ‘in talks’ over exit

Virgil van Dijk is reportedly in talks with Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal over a transfer this summer. Van Dijk has been expected to put pen to paper on a new two-year deal at Anfield, but neither he, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah haven’t done so yet.

That means that transfer rumours are still able to swirl, with a free transfer this summer still a possibility – in theory. It means that Middle Eastern journalists are able to speculate that Van Dijk is considering a move to Al-Hilal this summer.

The report states that the club’s president Fahad bin Nafel has met with the Dutchman’s agent in London. Al-Hilal reportedly want him through the door in time for the Club World Cup in America. It seems like wishful thinking on their behalf, given Van Dijk is currently captain of a club pushing for the Premier League title.

Kimmich interest

Liverpool have begun informal talks with Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich, according to German outlet TZ. Kimmich has been with Bayern since 2015 but his current deal expires at the end of the season.

He remains a key player under Vincent Kompany and Bayern are trying to agree a new contract for the versatile midfielder. However, nothing has been agreed yet and Liverpool are apparently considering a move for the Germany international.

Liverpool are certainly in the market for a holding midfielder, having missed out on the signing of Martin Zubimendi in the summer from Real Sociedad. Zubimendi rejected a £51million move to Anfield, but appears set to be heading to Arsenal in the summer.

Wolves hold firm over Gomes

Another midfielder Liverpool are interested in is Wolves star Joao Gomes, according to PL Brasil, but he looks out of reach. The report states that he won’t be allowed to leave for anything below €60m (£50m) in the summer – and that would be more than triple the amount Wolves paid to sign him from Flamengo in January 2023.

Unsurprisingly, a January move is deemed ‘impossible’, given Wolves are threatened with relegation from the Premier League. Gomes is also under contract until June 2028, meaning they are under no pressure to sell.
