Thiago Silva’s son, Iago Silva, has been called up to the England U15 squad for the very first time, with the former Chelsea star now sharing how proud he is.

There are certainly big shoes for Silva’s sons to fill at Stamford Bridge, after the Brazilian centre-back earned cult-hero status from his four years at the club.

The defender, still currently playing for Fluminense, has had a real impact on the current defenders at the club, even if he didn’t feature alongside them.

Jorrel Hato named Silva as his footballing idol, and the veteran centre-back will be hoping to have a similar impact ahead of the careers of his son, Iago, who is currently part of Chelsea’s academy.

A sign of how far he is coming at Cobham is that he has been called up for the England U15s camp for the very first time.

Thiago Silva took to his own Instagram story to share how proud he and his family were of the youngster’s achievement.

He said: “We are proud of you, my son. May God always bless you.”

Chelsea are already confident enough in Silva to have added him to their extensive B-list for the Champions League this season, however he is not likely to be included in a matchday squad.

Iago Silva has unique chance to impress Chelsea in December

After working with some of the other best young players in the country, the young centre-back will be given the chance to announce himself to the world again in December.

Chelsea have been invited to the ‘Messi Cup’, a tournament created by Lionel Messi which is designed to showcase the best young players in world football.

With it being an Under 16s competition, Silva will be eligible to compete for the Blues, and is certainly going to be in consideration to represent the youngsters against the likes of Manchester City, Barcelona and Inter Milan.
