Thanasi Kokkinakis of Australia receives treatment on his shoulder during a medical time-out. (Getty) Kokkinakis needed to call a medical time out in the third set for a right shoulder injury that was causing him serious discomfort, and again in the final set. The pair appeared exhausted by the end, each coming into the match coming injuries and no doubt leaving with very sore bodies. The match went for well over four and a half hours and included lengthy games, including one that went for over 15 minutes. (Getty) Very optimistic of my smart watch to send me a bedtime reminder notification while at a Thanasi Kokkinakis Australian Open match. We're going the distance here. In true Kokkinakis style, we're heading to a fifth set here at John Cain Arena as he battles Great Britain's top-ranked men's player Jack Draper. Kokkinakis looked close to claiming the fourth set, and the match, but Draper got the better of it 7-5. Draper breaks to love L By Lewis Wiseman Kokkinakis wont be serving for the match, just yet anyway. Great Britain's Jack Draper rose to the occasion and broke the Australian to love. Some statement. Locked at 5-5 in the fourth now. Kokkinakis to serve for the match L By Lewis Wiseman The score in the fourth set here is 4-5, in favour of Thanasi Kokkinakis. He is currently on serve though, which means he is serving for the game, set and match. This is a huge opportunity for the Australian. Talia Gibson loses first set M By Michael Doyle Australian wildcard Talia Gibson has lost the first set to Paula Badosa. The Spanish 11th seed was too good for the Australian, taking the opener 6-1. Kokkinakis shows good sportsmanship and gives up point L By Lewis Wiseman Why was the play stopped at the Draper/Kokkinakis match? - M Good question. Thanasi Kokkinakis asked the chair umpire to award a point to his opponent in the fifth game. The pair had produced an excellent rally which lasted nearly 20 shots, when Draper appeared to have nailed a forehand winner. But as the ball was sailing over the net, chair umpire Marijana Veljovic called for the point to be replayed. Veljovic then called the two players to the net to explain why the point needed to be replayed, which was not picked up by the broadcast microphones. But Kokkinakis asked the umpire to award the point to Draper. Talia Gibson on Margaret Court Arena now L By Lewis Wiseman Looking for more Australian's in action? Well, 20-year-old Talia Gibson is on right now. She's taking on Spain's Paula Badosa, who is the 11th seed in the tournament. Vukic wins from almost impossible situation L By Lewis Wiseman After the third set went the way of Sebastian Korda, Australian Open's stat service Infosys had all but ruled Aleksandar Vukic out. The win predictor had the Australian at a 6 per cent chance of winning the match. And yet he did! Aleksandar Vukic was emotional after the win (Getty Images) After the match, Vukic shouted "Let's fricken go, come on!" He thanked the crowd and admitted if it wasn't for them cheering him on, he wouldn't have been able to do that. He really was down and out in the early knockings of the fourth set. Props to you, Aleksandar! He's done it! Aleksandar Vukic you beauty! L By Lewis Wiseman (Getty Images) That was special! In front of a jubilant home crowd on Kia Arena, Australian Aleksandar Vukic has just shocked 22 seed American Sebastian Korda. The world number 68 was all but down and out after finding himself two sets to one down going in to the fourth. But he found some of that true Aussie spirit (with the help of a crowd who were right behind him) to fight back and win back to back sets to win. Vukic is now the first Australian to advance to the third round of the men's competition this year. Oh and it is the first time in his career he has made it this far at the Open. He is over the moon, and so he should be! What pressure? Vukic to serve for the match! L By Lewis Wiseman (Getty Images) That earlier talk of pressure being on Aleksandar Vukic was off the mark clearly, because the Aussie is now serving for the match. Not only did he hold his serve, he went on to break Sebastian Korda in the next game. He is serving for the match now! Kokkinakis battles to claim third set M By Marnie Vinall Kokkinakis leads two sets to one. (Getty) This is quite the match we've got on our hands. After taking the first set, then dropping the second, Thanasi Kokkinakis has claimed the third set 6-3 against Jack Draper. Thanasi Kokkinakis is clearly battling through an injury, but he's not giving up, especially with the home crowd behind him. He leads 7-6(7-3), 3-6, 6-3. I would say one set to go, but this is Kokkinakis. We should expect a five-hour marathon by now. One game he won against the Brit went for over 15 minutes. After the second-last game, Kokkinakis received a warning for spurring the crowd on too much - and they don't need any help. The chair umpire has her work cut out for her, having to quiet the crowd before almost every serve - especially after Kokkinakis wins a point. Sixth seed Casper Ruud OUT! M By Michael Doyle Jakub Menisk has produced a massive upset in the men's singles, eliminating sixth-seed Casper Ruud. Mensik, 19, was outstanding at Melbourne Park, winning 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. Vukic holds to keep scores level L By Lewis Wiseman Aleksandar Vukic is locked in currently on Kia Arena. The score is 3-3 in the fifth and the crowd is putting their support behind the Aussie. Take nothing away from Sebastian Korda though, he has plenty left to give. Vukic and Korda break each other in the fifth L By Lewis Wiseman In the opening two games of the fifth set, Aleksandar Vukic and Sebastian Korda have broken each others serve. It is tense here in the Kia Arena. A lot at stake for both players, obviously. The crowd is well and truly behind the Australian Vukic though. Show more posts
