Ineos ready to sacrifice £100m deal to bring Bryan Mbeumo to Old Trafford, Jason Wilcox deserves credit

Manchester United’s pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo means that Ineos will have to give up on other top transfer targets.

Ineos wasted no time confirming the arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolves this summer, and now negotiations are underway for Bryan Mbeumo to follow him to Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim is looking to overhaul his entire attack with a new striker also needed this summer.

Brentford value Mbeumo at around £60m, so while United are trying to lower the fee, the 25-year-old’s signature will still take a big bite out of the summer budget.

Cunha and Mbeumo will solve United’s lack of depth at the No.10 positions, so Ineos appear ready to give up on the likes of Tyler Dibling.

Ineos will have to give up Tyler Dibling pursuit for Bryan Mbeumo

Heading into the summer window, Dibling was a top target for United following his extraordinary breakthrough season at Southampton.

Incredibly, Southampton valued Dibling at £100m, considering him as one of the best young talents in English football.

Dibling was tipped to thrive at United if he made the move to Old Trafford this summer, and it seemed as though newly-appointed sporting director Jason Wilcox was eager to make it happen.

Wilcox is a huge admirer of Dibling having worked with the teenage winger during their time together at Southampton. However, it seems Wilcox has decided to give up on Dibling and instead target Mbeumo.

Unlike Dibling, Mbeumo is in his prime at Brentford and will arrive at United as one of the most prolific scorers and creators in the Premier League.

United backing out of the race means that rivals Tottenham or Newcastle United could swoop for Dibling this summer, but that is clearly a risk that Ineos and Wilcox are willing to take.

Jason Wilcox made correct Tyler Dibling decision

Since the Ineos takeover, there has been a noticeable push to sign more youth players who can develop into superstars.

Dibling ticks those boxes, but United are also trying to get away from paying superstar fees in the transfer window and Southampton’s asking price simply made a deal impossible.

For a cheaper price, United are chasing Mbeumo, who has proven himself to be a star in the Premier League and at 25 years old he still has plenty of time to develop and improve his numbers.

Once Cunha and Mbeumo are confirmed, Ineos can shift their full attention towards signing a striker and Viktor Gyokeres has emerged as a top target.

A return for Dibling in the future shouldn’t be ruled out, but Wilcox and Ineos deserve credit for making the right decision to walk away this summer.
