The 2025 French Open was one for the ages, entertaining fans in Paris and around the world.

In the longest Roland Garros final in history, Carlos Alcaraz defeated Jannik Sinner, 4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 7-6.

Alcaraz’s legendary win wrapped up what had been a historic tournament for several reasons.

Taking down Britain’s Jack Draper in the fourth round, Alexander Bublik became the first Kazakh quarterfinalist in a men’s Grand Slam tournament.

Bublik wasn’t the only player to make history in the fourth round, as Novak Djokovic’s victory over Cameron Norrie saw him reach 100 match wins at the French Open.

As history continues to be made and storylines continue to be written, Andy Roddick admits something is currently happening in tennis that he wouldn’t have believed a few years ago.

Andy Roddick wouldn’t have believed tennis could have this much ‘momentum’ post-big three era

During the latest edition of Served with Andy Roddick, the American gave his verdict on the current state of tennis.

“You could not have put together a better marketing campaign for the sport than what we saw the last two weeks,” he said.

“I personally want to thank the people who cover tennis, the players who put out this amazing product.

“I would have lost our house if you’d have told me that this type of momentum would’ve existed post-Roger [Federer], post-Rafa [Nadal], post-Serena [Williams], end of Novak [Djokovic].

“Here we are again, I would not have bet on it, I certainly didn’t expect it, but hell, I promise you I’m thankful for it.”

Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams, and Novak Djokovic combined for over 80 Grand Slam titles throughout their careers, winning Majors across four decades.

Player Grand Slam titles Years won Best Grand Slam Novak Djokovic 24 2008-2023 Australian Open – 10 titles Serena Williams 23 1999-2017 Australian Open/Wimbledon – 7 titles Rafael Nadal 22 2005-2022 French Open – 14 titles Roger Federer 20 2003-2018 Wimbledon – 8 titles ‘Big three’ and Serena Williams’ Grand Slam wins

As their era of dominance came to an end, many, including Roddick, expected tennis to endure a tough period of transition.

However, the French Open proved that won’t be the case, as Sinner and Alcaraz’s rivalry continues to drive the sport forward.

After watching the pair contest one of the greatest Major finals in tennis history, fans are already looking ahead to their next potential Grand Slam clash.

They could meet at Wimbledon next month, although Roddick believes another player could gate-crash the dream match-up on grass.

Andy Roddick says Novak Djokovic ‘can still win Wimbledon’ as well as Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz

Looking ahead to tennis’ trip to the All England Club, Roddick previewed Djokovic’s chances on the grass.

“I said after Novak [Djokovic] lost, he can still win Wimbledon,” he said.

“I don’t know if I believe that he could still win Roland Garros, and I say that cautiously, because every time I say something, he ends up doing the impossible.

“But I do think he is a major contender, I think he is right in there with Carlos [Alcaraz] and [Jannik] Sinner.”

Djokovic has reached the final of Wimbledon on his six previous visits to the tournament (4-2).

Having lost to Alcaraz in 2023 and 2024, the Serb will no doubt be out for revenge this time around.

The American also shared his thoughts on British number one, Draper, who will be competing at his home tournament with more pressure than ever before.

“Jack Draper, reaching superstardom this season and then going into that hype machine that happens around the British players there, there’s going to be a massive magnifying glass and there’s a lot of stories to tell,” he said.

Roddick’s co-host Jon Wertheim weighed in with his thoughts on Draper, who is now ranked number four in the world.

“Oh yeah, there’s a top four British player,” he said.

“Do you think Jack Draper’s going to have much attention on him? Good looking guy, lefty, top four.

“This sport all of a sudden has storylines galore, and you get a sense of how different these athletes are, not just as tennis players but as people. Tim Henman must be smiling, the Wimbledon market has just gone into overdrive.”

Wertheim was also keen to chime in on Sinner and Alcaraz’s rivalry, which continues to entertain fans.

“This is a next-level rivalry now. This is extraordinary,” he said.

“This was the first time either one of them had lost in a Major final. They go out here, play this match, five hours and 29 minutes, and they come within one point of each other.”

Only time will tell what will happen at Wimbledon, as Alcaraz, Sinner, Djokovic, and Draper all look to leave their mark on the grass.

The 2025 Wimbledon tournament is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 30.
