Canadian defender Cale Loughrey has signed for the club from Hamilton Accies on an 18-month contract.Born in Toronto, Cale spent the early stages of his playing career in his homeland featuring for the likes of Unionville Milliken SC and HFX Wanderers while also playing for the University of Alabama at Birmingham collegiate side.Last January, the 24-year-old moved to less familiar surrounds as he joined Romanian Liga II side Corvinul Hunedoara where he would spend six months before joining Hamilton in the summer. For Accies this season, Loughrey has featured 24 times in all competitions, started all 19 of their league games and contributed to eight clean sheets.Thistle Head Coach Mark Wilson said:“It’s fantastic to bring Cale to the club. January can be a very difficult window to operate in but we feel we’ve made a really strong addition to the squad here.“He fits our ethos perfectly both with the committed way in which he defends and his composed demeanour on the ball.“He’s someone who has taken to Scottish football brilliantly since joining Accies in the summer and is hungry to make the step up and continue to push himself forward in his career which is exactly the sort of attitude we want here at Thistle.”Cale will wear number 22 during his time as a Jag and is eligible for selection tonight against Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
