Nicolas Jackson will return to Chelsea this summer after Bayern Munich elected not to buy out his loan contract, and the striker’s agent has provided an update on the future of the 24-year-old.Article continues under the videoSince joining Chelsea in a €37 million deal in 2023, he has struggled to convince bosses at Stamford Bridge that he is a long-term option for the No.9 role.Nevertheless, the move on loan to Bayern was never truly seen as a switch that was likely to produce a permanent transfer, with the player’s €65m fee proving to be too much for the Bundesliga champions, who already have Harry Kane for the No.9 role.Nicolas Jackson’s Bayern exit confirmedBayern will not retain Jackson at the end of his loan move, prompting a response from Diomansy Kamara, who acts as the player’s agent.“Nico is having an excellent season with 28 matches played, 10 goals,” he posted on his Instagram account.“African champion, German champion and also qualified for the DFB Pokal final. Bayern Munich did not want to activate the buy option, and Nico remains 100% focused on the Champions League semi-final against PSG, a very important moment for him and for the club.“Bayern is a very big institution; the most important thing is to win as many trophies as possible by the end of the season.“The future… who can predict it? Trust the process, everything is possible.”Nicolas Jackson ‘warming’ to Chelsea return? It’s unclear what the future now holds for Jackson. Chelsea are already well stocked with No.9 options, with Joao Pedro and Liam Delap set to be joined at Stamford Bridge by Emmanuel Emegha in the summer.Even with a new manager in place at Chelsea come the start of pre-season, it is unlikely that Jackson will be considered a front-line option for the Premier League side. With an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €54.4m, he remains a very sellable asset thanks to his performances in the Bundesliga.Jackson had been left frustrated at losing his status as first-choice striker at Chelsea and pushed to leave the club last summer. When Liam Delap picked up a serious injury, Blues manager Enzo Maresca tried to cancel his loan to Bayern, but Nico refused in one of the most dramatic moments of last summer’s transfer window. His bridges with Chelsea had seemingly been burned, yet The Sun recently reported that his stance on a possible return had “softened”.“Sources close to Jackson say the player is warming to the idea of a Chelsea return, given how much has changed since he last played for the club,” it is claimed, with Jackson retaining a good relationship with both Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez. What are his other options?Data analytics firm SciSport suggests that Manchester City would be the optimal move for him with Bayern off the table. Its Career Advice tool, which scores clubs based on a wide variety of metrics, gives Pep Guardiola’s side a Club Fit of 83, which is an excellent score. However, with Erling Haaland already in their ranks, playing time would be limited at the Etihad Stadium, and with Jackson aiming to be a key figure, this could be a factor that breaks any move.Aston Villa, meanwhile, score 79, offering greater playing time but less development opportunities. Given where Nico is in his career currently, this could be attractive.Manchester United, Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund all receive scores of 78, making them viable options, too. It’s unclear what the future holds for Jackson, with Chelsea loaded in his position and needing to make sales. This is a transfer story that will develop in the coming weeks, however.Related stories:Fabrizio Romano drops Chelsea next manager bombshellEnzo Fernandez to Man City: A transfer Chelsea can't afford to acceptChelsea Transfer News Today: Blues get Gordon chance as Jackson decision confirmedThe FootballTransfers appCheck out FootballTransfers' new app for all of football's big storylines, transfer rumours and exclusive news in one convenient place directly on your mobile device. The FootballTransfers app is available on Google Play and in the Apple App Store.
