Ruben Amorim urged to brutally axe Man Utd star who spoke out over 'leaders' claim

Diogo Dalot should be cut from Manchester United’s team, a former Red Devils star has claimed.

The right-back has played a consistent role for the club this season under both Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim. The former Porto star has already made 30 appearances in all competitions this term.

But he hasn’t convinced everyone. Ex-United star Paul Parker claims that his inconsistent performances should see him taken out of the starting XI.

Speaking to FourFourTwo, he said: “That doesn’t work. He [Dalot] gives no balance. There are some good bits, but there are a lot of bad bits.

“His best game in a long time came against Liverpool, because he was able to run at Trent Alexander-Arnold, and everybody knows that when you play against Liverpool, you go up against him, as you’re going to get joy down that side.

“Manchester United and Dalot exploited that, and if there was someone naturally left-footed, then United would have had a lot more joy. Luke Shaw, even if fit, doesn’t naturally look to try and play as a winger when he plays as a wing-back.”

Parker’s claim that Dalot should be axed comes just days after the Portuguese defender had bit back at his own manager. After Amorim claimed that there was a lack of leaders in the Red Devils’ dressing room, the Portuguese defender disputed that suggestion.

He said: "It [Amorim’s comments] pinched me. It's something that I've been trying to bring out of myself the last couple of years, but we have great leaders inside the dressing room.

"Sometimes people don't see it, but we are trying to help our teammates and help each other in the best way possible. But if he feels it, then we have to look at it and look at ourselves... 'How can I improve my team? Can I step up a little bit more'.

"For me, it pinched me. I've been here for a while and I try to pass that experience onto the younger players and the new players, but at the same time I would say that we have great leaders inside the dressing room that can be up to the level.”

Dalot will hope that he has retained Amorim’s faith ahead of this weekend’s crunch clash. United take on Premier League rivals Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday.
