South Dakota Drops Road Match at Kansas

LAWRENCE, Kan. — The South Dakota women's tennis team fell 4-0 to Kansas on Friday morning at the Jayhawk Tennis Center, as the Jayhawks secured the doubles point and three singles victories to clinch the non-conference matchup.

Kansas opened the match by claiming the doubles point. The Jayhawks secured wins at No. 2 and No. 1 doubles to take the early 1-0 lead. At No. 2, Meriem Ben Ezzedine and Kyoka Kubo defeated Anna Medvyedyeva and Keta Shavishvili 6-4. He Janse van Vuuren and Meg McCarty followed with a 6-3 victory over Kayleigh Didderiens and Cassy Marra at the top position. The No. 3 doubles match featuring Selena Bird and Ava Doddridge was left unfinished with the Coyotes leading 5-4.

Kansas extended its lead in singles play, earning straight-set wins at No. 6 and No. 1 singles. Kinley VanPelt defeated Doddridge 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 6 spot before Kyoka Kubo secured a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Bird at No. 1.

The Jayhawks clinched the match at No. 3 singles where Ben Ezzedine topped Medvyedyeva 6-4, 3-0 to seal the 4-0 result. Three remaining singles matches were left unfinished.
