Alex Eala of the Philippines and Coco Gauff of the United States fell to the Italian Open defending champions Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini of Italy in the quarterfinals of the tournament, 7-5, 3-6, 10-7, on late Wednesday at the Grand Stand Arena in Foro Italico in Rome, Italy.

Eala and Gauff led in the first set, 5-3, before falling to the Italian pair. However, the duo then bounced back and took the second set after a tight opening in the said frame.

Eventually, it was the pair of Errani and Paolini who emerged victorious as they advanced to the semifinals.

Prior to this, Eala and Gauff opened their doubles run with a win against Alexandra Panova and Fanny Stollar, 6-3, 6-1, then dominated Tyra Caterina Grant and Lisa Pigato, 6-2, 6-3, in the Round of 16.

Gauff, meanwhile, will still play in the women's singles semifinals.

Eala had an early exit in the Italian Open after falling to Marta Kostyuk in the first round.
