The athlete revealed she took a GLP-1 after struggling to lose weight following the births of her daughters Olympia and Adira in 2017 and 2023.

Serena Williams proudly stripped down to a neon cutout swimsuit on Thursday, August 21, just hours after opening up about her weight loss journey in a new interview. The tennis legend shared a glimpse of her latest summer vacation with her 18.2 million Instagram followers, posed in a playful, dopamine-fueling hue as she splashed around in the ocean.

“Melanin mellow-yellow,” she captioned her tropical photo dump, which showed her wading in knee-height clear blue water. Williams—who shares her daughters Olympia, 7, and Adira, 1, with husband Alex Ohanian—confidently posed with her hands on her hips as she showed off a yellow one-piece swimsuit with a midriff cutout, a chest tie, and spaghetti straps. The athlete wore her blonde sleek blowout in a low ponytail, accessorizing with black round sunglasses, a leaf-printed neck tie, a black Apple Watch, and shiny lip gloss. Williams also shared a close-up selfie of her simple glam look, as well as a photo of her striking a surfer pose in the water.

The 23-time Grand Slam winner opened up about her experience taking a GLP-1 in an interview with People published on Wednesday, revealing that she’s lost 31 pounds as a result of the medication. While Williams didn’t reveal exactly which drug she took, popular GLP-1 medications include Ozempic and Mounjaro.

Williams told People that the GLP-1 made her feel “really good and healthy,” while enhancing the effects of the exercise and diet she’d turned to following the birth of her kids. “I feel light physically and light mentally.” she added.

The star said that she struggled to lose weight after welcoming her two daughters in 2017 and 2023, explaining, “I never was able to get to the weight I needed to be no matter what I did, no matter how much I trained. It was crazy because I'd never been in a place like that in my life where I worked so hard, ate so healthy, and could never get down to where I needed to be at.”

Williams also said she did a lot of research into GLP-1s before deciding it was the right decision for her. “I was like, 'is this a shortcut? What are the benefits? What are not the benefits?'” she shared. “I really wanted to dive into it before I just did it.”
