NEW SIGNING INTERVIEW: Morris Relishing Rams Challenge

Derby County’s first signing of the summer, Carlton Morris, admitted his excitement to play in the ‘rocking’ Pride Park Stadium atmosphere.

The 29-year-old striker ended his three-season association with Luton Town to join the Rams on a three-year deal.

He netted 39 goals and provided 16 assists in 137 appearances as he led the line for the Hatters on their way to Premier League promotion in 2022/23.

Morris will significantly bolster John Eustace’s attacking ranks, bringing a wealth of experience and quality to the Rams’ forward line.

He was Luton’s top scorer in the English top-flight, as he bagged 11 goals in 38 Premier League matches two seasons ago. The frontman also captained Luton on multiple occasions over the last two seasons, donning the armband 19 times at the highest level.

Morris caught up with RamsTVafter signing on the dotted line at Moor Farm Training Ground and looked ahead to his first season in black and white.

On joining the Rams…

It's a massive club that I've heard a lot of good things about. When they came in for me, it was a bit of a no-brainer, really.

[The move is] a big change, especially with my family. You want to know about the football club, about the area, and I've heard nothing but good. I've heard it's a great family club, so I'm excited to get going.

On his journey with Luton Town…

I loved it. It's emotional leaving them to be honest, but it's a new chapter for me. I think it would be good for them to have some new faces in the door and, hopefully, they can kick on as well.

On his view of the Derby fanbase…

I couldn't believe the atmosphere when I played at Pride Park towards the end of last season. I know it was a big game in the battle to stay up, but the fans were rocking.

I've played in some quite big stadiums, but you can really feel the acoustics in the stadium. It was crazy, it was bouncing. I'm excited to have those fans egging me on as their own player.

On his ambitions and role in the team…

I think I'm entering the prime stage of my career as a striker now. I spoke to Rob Edwards, who has told me how good Keith Downing is and that Matt Gardiner is exceptional to work with as well. They're only going to make me a better player which is crucial as I'm at a place where I'm probably the most coachable I've been in my career and ready to kick on.
