Ben Simmons struggles to offload Brooklyn penthouse, drops asking price

Ben Simmons is struggling to find a buyer for his luxury New York apartment.

The Australian basketball player, now a NBA free agent, is selling his five-bedroom residence in the luxury waterfront neighbourhood of Dumbo.

The former Brooklyn Nets power forward listed the property – originally two separate units – in March 2025 for $US16.99 million ($24 million).

The planned sale coincided with the 29-year-old’s move to the Los Angeles Clippers, yet there were no bites, according to Realtor.

The Melbourne-born athlete played 18 games with the LA club before becoming a free agent at the end of the 2025 season.

Simmons has now relisted the property for $US14.99 million, ($20 million) a sizable price reduction.

Located in the upmarket Olympia high-rise, the residence offers panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty.

Designed by Widell + Boschetti, it boasts five bedrooms with five full bathrooms and two half baths.

At the heart of the home is a chef’s kitchen with Fior di Bosco marble countertops, which flow into an open plan living room and oversized dining that has a custom wet bar.

The primary suite boasts a custom-made dressing room and dedicated shoe closet.

High-end finishes include heated floors throughout with motorised blinds and custom lighting. There are also four dedicated parking spaces and a private guest wing that includes a home theatre.

Residents also have access to building amenities including indoor and outdoor pools, a full-sized outdoor tennis court, a bowling alley, a boxing gym, a spin studio and sauna.

“The goal was to create a true sanctuary: a place where he could unwind and recharge, balanced with areas designed for entertaining and gathering with friends,” Widell + Boschetti, with co-founder Barette Widell, told Realtor.

She noted Simmons’ priority for the apartment was his bedroom.

“The client prioritised comfort and functionality above all else,” she shared.

“He wanted his primary suite to feel like a retreat, while also having a dedicated space where friends could relax, play pool and enjoy a more social, energetic environment.”

Simmons snapped up two adjacent units for $US14 million in 2023.

He transformed the two spaces into the 488.76-square-metre residence.

The property is on the market with Carl Gambino and Marta Maletz of The Gambino Group at Compass.
