Manchester United have appointed Michael Carrick to head coach to lead the team until the end of the season.

Michael Carrick is preparing to lead Manchester United ahead of the derby this coming weekend, the first of his 17 games in charge.

Manchester United fans verdict on Michael Carrick

United are battling to try and qualify for the Champions League, and this would mean finishing inside the top five places.

One fan wrote: “Let the players know that 110% effort is required in every game no sleeping on the job, fight for the badge & win enough games to qualify for The Champions League & lastly tell Wilcox to do one.”

A second fan called for the Carrick to try and imprint the club’s attacking style: “Get United players to play the kind of attacking football they used to play when we were at our best and he was part of – been missing too long now.

“He should know how as he had many years at OT. Looking forward to major improvements and proper football.”

Another fan added: “He needs to get the player’s to have positional awareness, and not go wandering. Centre-backs shouldn’t cross the halfway line except for corners. 4-4-2 with discipline.”

A further comment pointed to the challenge Carrick faces in terms of fitting his players into his preferred system

“Identify the best options to play on the wing. Cunha is going to be tricky but he could do a good job on the left as an inside forward. Mount definitely seemed to struggle out wide so keep him as rotation for Bruno and maybe Mainoo.”

Another supporter simply added: “Bring back Harry In defence and replace Dalot with a decent right back.”

One more fan wrote: “Good 1st interview with Michael. Ecstatic about being selected, knows how Utd should play football.”
