Shreyas Iyer Sums up PBKS Success

The 2026 IPL season is in full swing, with the first T20 Cricket double header of the season scheduled for April 4th, 2026. The Punjab Kings are sitting pretty heading into the weekend, following their big win against the Chennai Super Kings on April 3rd. Leading the way for PBKS is their skipper, Shreyas Iyer.

After the match, Shreyas spoke about the formula that has led to the Punjab Kings’ success, amid their win streak. He summed up their two-match win streak in three words. Additionally, Shreyas is facing more discipline after their second match.

Shreyas spoke after the Punjab Kings 210/5 to 209/5 victory over CSK. He revealed something interesting about the team’s mindset and summed up their success as wanting to “impress each other.”

“There wasn’t anything planned as such,” Shreyas said via the post-match coverage. “We simply spoke in the dressing room about wanting to impress each other rather than focusing on outside expectations. That mindset has worked well for us.”

This is a great mindset for these players to have. This team wants to play for each other, and that is their motivation to play better.

Additionally, he spoke highly of their second match opening partnership of Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh.

“There’s always a bit of concern before going out to chase a big total, but the way we began today was outstanding,” Shreyas continued. “Priyansh and Prabh did a terrific job up front, giving us the perfect platform going into the middle overs. They’ve been batting this way for a long time now, and that consistency really helps settle the rhythm for the rest of us.”

“I’m really pleased that everyone has had the chance to bat within the first couple of games. It builds confidence across the group. When we find ourselves under pressure, people know exactly how to handle the situation and play their roles.”

Punjab Kings on a Two-Match T20 Cricket Win Streak

The Punjab Kings have launched their 2026 IPL season with a two-match win streak.

First, they dispatched the Gujarat Titans by 3 wickets, with a final score of 165/7 to 162/6. Cooper Connolly hit a 72 knock off 44 balls, hitting five fours and five sixes.

Leading the way behind the ball was Vyshak Vijaykumar. The bowler threw three wickets and eight dot balls in four overs.

Prior to the Saturday double-header, the Punjab Kings sat first in the IPL with a 2-0 record, four points, and an NRR of 0.637.

Shreyas Iyer Disciplined…Again

Punjab Kings and Shreyas have been fined following their second match of the 2026 IPL tournament. Unfortunately for Shreyas, this is his second fine of the season.

“Punjab Kings Captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No.7 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai,” an IPL media advisory read. “As this was his team’s second offense of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offenses, Iyer was fined INR 24 lakhs.”

“The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, will be fined either INR six lakhs or 25 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser.”

INR 24 lakhs is equal to $35,931 in Canadian dollars or $25,879 US dollars.
