Jeļena Ostapenko came through a testing round of 16 matchup against Alexandra Eala at the 2026 Linz Open.The former Grand Slam tennis champion sealed her first head-to-head victory over the Filipina on Wednesday (8 April), advancing to the women's singles quarter-finals with a 6-4, 7-5 win.Eala was on track to force a deciding set at the WTA 500 event but conceded her 5-1 advantage in the second, as a resurgent Ostapenko battled back to prevail in one hour, 43 minutes. “I’m beating players that I did not beat before now, so I feel that I am on the right [path],” she said on-court following her first clay-court win of the season.Ostapenko has a quarter-final showdown with Romania’s Elena-Gabriela Ruse, the world No. 87, who came from behind to beat Dayana Yastremska 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the previous round.More to follow...
