Rajasthan Royals squandered a dominant start and slipped to 155 for 9 against Kolkata Knight Riders in Match 28 of IPL 2026 at Eden Gardens on Sunday. After racing to 79 without loss in eight overs, RR lost momentum badly as KKR’s bowlers triggered a collapse.

Kolkata now need 156 runs in 20 overs to end their six-match losing streak this season.

Jaiswal, Vaibhav give RR ideal start

After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Rajasthan openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi gave the visitors a strong platform.

Despite a cautious beginning, the duo accelerated smartly and added 63 runs in the powerplay. They continued to dominate and took RR to 81 for no loss, putting KKR under pressure early in the innings.

Varun Chakravarthy sparks KKR comeback

The breakthrough came through Varun Chakravarthy, who dismissed Vaibhav for 46 off 28 balls, leaving the youngster four short of another IPL half-century.

Varun struck again soon after by removing Dhruv Jurel for 5, with the wicketkeeper batter stumped. Suddenly, the momentum shifted sharply in Kolkata’s favour.

Narine joins in as RR collapse

Sunil Narine then removed Jaiswal for 39 off 29 balls, while Varun claimed his third wicket by dismissing captain Riyan Parag for 12.

Donovan Ferreira fell cheaply to Narine as RR slipped further to 125 for 5, losing control completely after their excellent start.

Tyagi finishes strongly at the death

Kartik Tyagi ensured Rajasthan could not recover in the final overs. He dismissed Ravindra Jadeja for 9, then removed Shimron Hetmyer for 15 and Ravi Bishnoi for a duck in the same over.

RR managed only 9 runs in the final over as they closed on 155 for 9, a disappointing finish after their blazing opening stand.
