Ryan Gravenberch names Liverpool teammate who is 'screaming all the time' during matches

Liverpool will lift the Premier League title this afternoon, with Ryan Gravenberch a key reason behind this season’s success.

The former Bayern Munich midfielder has been a revelation under Arne Slot in the last nine months, with Gary Neville comparing Gravenberch to Patrick Vieira as the 23-year-old scooped up the Premier League Young Player of the Season award.

With Gravenberch now believed to be worth £170m, the Netherlands international’s transformation has been nothing short of astonishing, with Liverpool now having one of the best midfielders in the world on their hands seemingly out of nowhere.

Yet despite the youngster’s impressive season, Gravenberch has admitted that there’s one Liverpool teammate who still shouts at him during matches.

Ryan Gravenberch says Virgil van Dijk is ‘screaming all the time’ for Liverpool

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Ajax academy graduate revealed that Virgil van Dijk is always screaming at Gravenberch whenever the midfielder wants to break away from the system Slot has done well to implement this season.

Indeed, Gravenberch’s role in the centre of the park, coupled with Alexis Mac Allister’s development into one of the best deep-lying midfielders in the world, has been huge in Liverpool’s journey to winning the Premier League this season.

Yet for a player with standards as high as Van Dijk, Gravenberch can sometimes make an occasional tactical mistake, something that the Liverpool captain clearly makes his teammate aware about on the pitch.

Gravenberch said: “Obviously there’s two centre-backs, but if I have to pick one, it will be Virg, I always hear ‘Jiro, Jiro’! Because sometimes I want to go forward, but I have to think about rest defence, so we organise a lot, so I hear him screaming all the time whether I have to be left or right.”

Virgil van Dijk’s leadership has been key to Liverpool’s success

Van Dijk has returned to the summit of his playing abilities this season at Liverpool, with the Dutch international comfortably the best defender in the world and showing no sign of slowing down again heading into the summer.

And the former Southampton centre-back’s leadership skills have been key to Liverpool’s success this season, with Van Dijk marshalling the entire squad and those on the pitch with an air of authority that is hard to match in football.

Moreover, the likes of Gravenberch are improving because of Van Dijk’s commands, with the defender helping his teammates in his own manner and showing what needs to be done to ensure that Liverpool’s XI are as sound as possible against opponents.
