Bulldog Football Promotes Creighton, Hires Bethany and Lytton

The University of Minnesota Duluth football team has welcomed three new members to their coaching staff for the upcoming 2025 season with the hiring of Jalen Bethany as the new cornerback coach, Dalton Creighton as the tight end coach, and Jacob Lytton as the Running Back Coach.

Bethany joins the Bulldog staff after serving as a coach for the Explosion Flight Academy, where he directed both offensive and defensive schemes for 7-on-7 travel football teams for the ages of 14-18. Since December 2020, Bethany has also served as a personal trainer for youth football players through SWHET, an online service that provides current and former collegiate athletes with the opportunity to sell private lessons, clinics, and camps to other athletes.

As a player, Bethany was a wide receiver for Division I FCS Lindenwood University, seeing action in 18 total games. During the 2022 season, Bethany collected 23 catches for 239 total yards and one touchdown. A native of St. Louis, Mo., Bethany holds a Bachelor's in Psychology from Lindenwood University.

Creighton spent the 2024 season as the assistant defensive line coach for UMD. Creighton helped manage a defensive team for the Bulldogs that collected 39 total sacks and held opponents to only 75.5 rushing yards per game and 250.4 total yards per game.

Prior to his time at UMD, Creighton served as a recruiting and coaching Intern for his alma mater, the University of Dubuque. In his role, he helped Spartan football streamline the recruiting process and provided incoming student-athletes with tours of their campus and facilities.

As a player, Creighton was a defensive lineman for the University of Dubuque, seeing action in 14 games for the Spartans. As a senior, Creighton collected two sacks and three tackles for loss while also being named a National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society honoree. A native of Lake Geneva, Wis., Creighton holds a Bachelor's in Sports Management and Marketing from the University of Dubuque.

Lytton joins the Bulldog coaching staff after most recently serving as an offensive graduate assistant - wide receiver coach for Briar Cliff University, assisting in the construction, preparation, and execution of the Chargers offensive scheme throughout the 2024 season.

In early 2022, Lytton served as an offensive coaching intern for the Quad City Steamwheelers indoor football team. During his time with the Steamwheelers, Lytton assisted in the development of the offensive skill positions and the scouting of players for potential signing.

As a player, Lytton was a wide receiver and special teams player for Augustana College from 2019 through 2022, seeing action in 20 games throughout his collegiate career. A native of Berkeley, Ill., Lytton holds a Bachelor's in Business Administration from Augustana College and a Master's in Management from Briar Cliff University.
