Darwin Nunez drops Liverpool reminder as triple Man City team news hint dropped

Liverpool face a tough test on Sunday as they travel to Manchester City looking to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table

Darwin Nunez, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have dropped potential team selection hints as Liverpool take on Manchester City on Sunday. The Reds have the opportunity create an 11-point gap to nearest challengers Arsenal following their defeat at home to West Ham United on Saturday.

Arne Slot's side have picked up two draws in their last three, with a narrow win over Wolves sandwiched between a point apiece against Everton and Aston Villa.

As is the case with modern day football, players take to their social media platforms to build-up to the matches. Of course, this could just be someone running their accounts for them, posting regardless of whether they are going to be involved or not.

As well as Nunez, midfielders Mac Allister and Szoboszlai both posed to social media with question marks over who will feature against Pep Guardiola's Premier League holders.

The trio posted matchday graphics ahead of the trip to the Etihad Stadium, a stadium where Liverpool haven't won in the league since 2015.

Nunez has been one of the main talking points since Wednesday against the Villans after the Uruguayan squandered a golden opportunity from close-range in the dying embers of the encounter.

Szoboszlai opted to pass across to the striker after being played through, but the 25-year-old could only manage to blaze over.

His reaction to the miss sparked a response from the Liverpool head coach, who revealed that he would speak to the forward.

"I can accept every miss, ­especially from a player who scored two very important goals away at Brentford and that scored for us in the home game against Villa [in ­November]," Slot said.

"I would prefer him to score but the word ‘chance’ says it all. It is a chance and not 100% that it goes in.

"I can accept misses but what is harder for me to accept is his behaviour after the chance. It got too much in his head, he was not the usual ­Darwin who works his ass off and makes sure he helps the team.

"He was too ­disappointed he missed that chance. Maybe we will never know but maybe that was why he was just a fraction short the moment afterwards.

"We don't talk about these things in public," he added when asked about transfer interest in Nunez. "He is the same player who scored two very important goals against Brentford.

"It is the life of a number nine, like it is the life of a defender or goalkeeper. Sometimes you make a mistake but the good thing about being a number nine is that you are a hero more often.

"Once in a while, you miss a chance that everyone talks about. That is not a problem for me, but his reaction should have been a bit better afterwards.

"He was gutted because he felt the importance of that miss. He is a human being, but we have to learn to get better and better and better - and I hope next time he will act differently than he did."
