Varun Chakravarthy had a dream run in the ICC Champions Trophy and played a significant role in India's triumph. Varun's inclusion in the squad was a gamble that paid off for India. He was not included in the initial squad, however, a scintillating show in the T20I series against England forced India to consider him for the Champions Trophy. The spinner played three games and picked up nine wickets to help India win the trophy.

This was not the first time India gambled on Varun. India included Varun over Yuzvendra Chahal during the T20 World Cup 2021 but the spinner failed to live up to the expectations. He played three matches and failed to pick a wicket as India crashed out of the tournament from the group stage, also suffering a defeat to Babar Azam's Pakistan.

Varun revealed scary details about the threats he received after his poor outings in the T20 World Cup.

'After the 2021 World Cup, I received threat calls. People said, 'Don't come to India. If you try, you won't be able to'. People approached my house and tracked me down, and I sometimes had to hide. When I was returning from the airport, some people followed me on their bikes. It happens. I can understand fans are emotional," said Varun on Gobinath YT.

Varun Chakravarthy To Make Test Debut? Meanwhile, Varun's staggering show in the ICC Champions Trophy has given rise to calls for his inclusion in the Test team. Former India cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu backed the idea of having Varun in the India squad for the five-match Test series against England.

"Mystery spinners are England's weakness. It's a swollen nerve for England. Will you leave out Varun Chakravarthy? No, you will have to play him. Or you will play Kuldeep Yadav with his high-end deliveries from both ends, they can't read him," Sidhu told Sports Today.
