Alexander Zverev turned up his dry sense of humour following his four-set win over Tommy Paul.

Zverev revealed he had requested to play the night match this evening instead of Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz.

“I know Novak v Carlos is the must-see match, probably of the tournament. I did request a night match but that was turned down quickly,” Zverev revealed to Jim Courier.

He also deadpanned that fans should just go home after watching him and Paul’s clash.

“Boring match. No reason for you to even stay here after you’ve witnessed Zverev v Paul,” Zverev said as laughter broke out around Rod Laver Arena.

“Two of the best players that have ever touched a tennis racquet, Novak is the greatest of all time right now. Carlos is going to be one of them when he hangs it up so it is a clash of generation.

“They have played grand slam finals before, the Olympic finals last year so it is a privilege to witness it here in Australia.

“Please do enjoy it and I think it is going to be great match.”
