Liam Rosenior reveals why Chelsea suffered a ‘painful scoreline’ against PSG

Liam Rosenior revealed his thoughts on a 5-2 loss to Paris Saint-Germain to TNT Sports.

The Chelsea head coach hoped to mimic the success of his predecessor Enzo Maresca, who oversaw a 3-0 victory over the Champions League holders in the final of the Club World Cup during July.

Malo Gusto and Enzo Fernandez fired home strikes to keep the teams tied by the hour mark. However, a Filip Jorgensen error allowed Vitinha to restore the lead for the Parisians, and they rammed home their advantage. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia came off the bench to devastating effect, notching himself a brace to end the evening and put PSG in an extremely commanding position.

The BlueCo project continues to raise questions about the level of maturity and consistency in the camp. Even if PSG are not purring at their brilliant best, their levels under Luis Enrique are a reminder of how far the Blues have to go if they want to be back competing with the best clubs on the continent.

"A very disappointing result in an evening where for so much of the game I was really happy. The last 15-20 minutes were crazy. We need to be better with setbacks, and we need to stay calm. We didn't.

"It's a painful scoreline because for 75 minutes we were way in the tie and the game itself.

"Players make mistakes, Filip Jorgensen is not the first one to make a mistake, that's part of football. In that moment at 2-2 we were in the ascendancy, an inch away from 3-2 with Joao Pedro scoring after Enzo Fernandez was offside. But in the top level, Champions League level, it is fine margins.

"The fifth goal was the most painful one after a flashpoint. We don't settle ourselves down. They scored a fifth goal and that makes it very difficult, but not impossible to come back from."
