The Reds completed a move worth up to £116million for the midfielder, who was highly sought after following his stellar performances for Bayer Leverkusen.The arrival of the Germany international for what could become a British record fee was a statement of intent from Liverpool, making it clear that the club are keen not only to retain the Premier League title next season but also create long-term success. Wirtz notched 16 goals and 15 assists across 45 games during his final season with Leverkusen and there is much excitement about how he could improve Arne Slot’s side.Wirtz did not feature in the team’s opening pre-season friendly against Preston North End but he did play 45 minutes in a behind-closed-doors 5-0 win against Stoke City, where he was involved in two goals. While the wait to see Wirtz line up for Liverpool continues, the club’s social media team recently showed a glimpse of what fans can expect, with the 22-year-old impressing his team-mates in training during the team’s pre-season tour.The footage showed Wirtz taking part in a training drill, receiving a pass with his back to goal. He passed the ball back before running down the channel, instantly taking control of the return.With defenders closing in and the angle narrowing, Wirtz opted to lob the goalkeeper, much to the joy of his team-mates. Off-camera, a voice was heard saying, ‘Oh my goodness,’ in response to Wirtz’s inch-perfect finish.As he jogged back into position, Wirtz appeared unfazed by his moment of skill, but he allowed himself a slight smirk before the footage ended.
