Manchester United make decision on Tyler Fredricson and James Scanlon ahead of Real Sociedad clash

Manchester United are preparing for a huge evening in the Europa League with Real Soceidad visiting Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim may have played down the Europa League’s importance but this is the biggest game Manchester United will play before the end of the season.

United drew 1-1 with Real Sociedad last week, squandering a 1-0 lead despite being the better side for large spells.

A place in the quarter-finals is now up for grabs and with Ineos budgeting for European football, United must take this opportunity.

Injuries remain rife in the United squad though and that means young players may again receive chances to impress Amorim.

Manchester United add Tyler Fredricson and James Scanlon

Ayden Heaven caught Amorim’s eye with a strong cameo against Arsenal on Sunday whilst the buzz around Chido Obi continues.

Obi can’t play for United against Real Sociedad though with the striker unable to be registered for Europa League action.

Two more youngsters will now be at Amorim’s disposal with Tyler Fredricson and James Scanlon added to the squad, as confirmed on United’s official website.

Fredricson and Scanlon have been added to the UEFA B list and could be in contention for places on the bench against Real Sociedad.

Mason Mount, Leny Yoro and Harry Maguire are all out but Manuel Ugarte may return.

Those injuries may well upon up spots for the likes of Fredricson and Scanlon, with the duo hoping for first-team debuts.

Tyler Fredricson and James Scanlon profiled

Fredricson is a 20-year-old centre back who has made 10 Premier League 2 appearances this season.

Hailing from Manchester, Fredricson was handed a first professional deal back in 2022 but has yet to feature in the first team.

Scanlon has been in blistering form this season, smashing 17 goals and seven assists across all competitions.

The 18-year-old already has 10 caps for Gibraltar on the international stage but is waiting for his United chance.

Scanlon’s lack of opportunities has caused confusion around Carrington with staff believing that he deserves a chance.

Scanlon may now take a spot on the bench against Real Sociedad though with his addition to the squad potentially opening up a chance for the teenager.
