The Sharks are pleased to announce the immediate signing of dynamic utility Riley Jones as part of their full-time NRL training squad until the end of 2026.Jones joined his new teammates last week after finalising a move from the Knights before the June 30 transfer deadline. The Gosford native came through Newcastle's pathway system before playing his lone NRL match to date against the Dragons in Round 27, 2023.While he started out as a five-eighth/hooker, Jones has spent this season switching between centre, fullback and wing for the Knights' NSW Cup team, scoring seven tries in 13 games. The 23-year-old is eager to add to his first-grade experience under coach Craig Fitzgibbon."I'm really grateful to Fitzy for putting belief in me and moving me over here," Jones said."It's been a big change. It's all happened pretty quickly, but I'm settling in really well."I don't have one position that I'm stuck in, so I'm just excited to learn under Fitzy. I've heard great things. When I met with him, I was very, very impressed."After being recruited by the Knights from the Central Coast Roosters as a 16-year-old, Jones is relishing the opportunity to broaden his horizons."I think it's time for a bit of a change and to get uncomfortable," he added."It's always been a dream of mine to play NRL. One (match) isn't enough; I'm ready to really kick off the career and hopefully get some more games with the boys."Sharks General Manager Football Darren Mooney welcomed Jones' arrival."Riley is a talented player who has shown an ability to excel in multiple roles," Mooney said."He adds valuable coverage to our NRL squad and is a seasoned performer at the senior level, with 41 NSW Cup matches under his belt so far."We're excited to have Riley on board for at least the next year and a half."Jones has been named on the bench for the Newtown Jets – Cronulla's NSW Cup partner club – to face the Sea Eagles at Henson Park on Saturday afternoon.
