The Wright stuff Liverpool hijack Arsenal striker transfer despite Gunners agreeing terms two weeks ago

LIVERPOOL have agreed a deal to hijack a transfer for a highly-rated youngster who was set to join Arsenal.

The Gunners looked all set to complete a deal for Salford ace Will Wright, 17.

The north London side looked to have stolen a march on their title rivals after the Anfield outfit were favourites to complete a deal.

Arsenal had hoped they had clinched a deal with an offer of £250,000 plus major add-ons.

That had blown Liverpool's bid of £100,000 out of the water.

But now the tables have turned.

Personal terms were not in place on that deal, with Wright favouring a stay in North West England.

And because of that, the Premier League champions are on course to re-hijack their deal for the teenage ace after also striking terms with Salford.

Wright's football development has largely taken place outside of an academy set-up.

But it is now felt that joining an "elite environment" is the right step on his path.

Wright, a clinical goalscorer for Salford's youth and B teams, was rewarded for his efforts with a first-team debut against Manchester City in the FA Cup third round - a match won 8-0 by the Premier League club.

A month later, he made his League Two debut in a 2-1 defeat at Port Vale, coming on for the injured Cole Stockton after 35 minutes.

He only made one more appearance all season after all, coming in a 12-minute cameo in the following week against Bradford, again a defeat for Salford.

Liverpool's plan for the youngster will see him join Rob Page's Under-21 side.
