Kai Rooney hits back at claim he has already been offered new Man Utd deal

Manchester United have reportedly offered scholarships to several academy players, but Kai Rooney has questioned the source of a story regarding him and Jacey Carrick.

Ever since Ineos took control of football operations at Manchester United, from the beginning of 2024, there has been a clear push towards signing the best young talent in the game.

Examples of that include deals for Ayden Heaven, Chido Obi, Sekou Kone, Leny Yoro and Patrick Dorgu.

There are others, too, like Benjamin Sesko, who has shown glimpses of what they can do on the biggest stage.

Will Sekou Kone earn a Manchester United first-team chance while at Lausanne?

What would he have to do in order to guarantee his place next season?

This gives United a platform to develop players who can contribute to the team in the coming years, if they are not ready just yet.

United are likely to continue their pursuit to sign more talented young players in the summer when the transfer window opens again.

They will also be working hard to ensure that the best talents at Carrington remain at the club.

Kai Rooney dismisses report over Man Utd scholarship deals

While United are always on the lookout for fresh talent, Carrington is currently the home of many talented prospects.

Talents like Shea Lacey and JJ Gabriel are giving United fans reasons to get excited for the future, but they are not alone.

According to The Sun, 16-year-old duo Kai Rooney and Jacey Carrick have been offered scholarship deals.

They could both follow in their fathers’ footsteps by signing professional contracts at United, and they will be doing well to develop into half the players Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick were.

The report claims Kai’s one-year scholarship would turn into a three-year professional deal that would earn him £50,000 per year with an annual signing-on fee. It is noted that the Rooney family have not agreed to the deal, with the deals offered before Jacey’s father was made head coach until the end of the season.

A source told The Sun: “The group is very strong and the majority of the boys including Kai and Jacey have been offered deals.

“It means when they finish school they can go into full-time ‘football employment’ and then when they turn 17 are guaranteed pro status.

“They still have a long way to go to make the grade, but they can be very proud that the club thinks they have a chance of making it.”

However, after several outlets cited the report, Kai took to Instagram stories to dismiss the claims: “Don’t listen to Mail.”

Will Kai Rooney ever play for the Manchester United first team?

He's shown himself to be among the best at an U18 level, but can he reach that next level?

The players who have been offered deals have until July to decide whether to sign.

How Kai Rooney reacted to Old Trafford debut for Man Utd U18s

Wayne Rooney recently lifted the lid on his son Kai’s initial reaction to playing at Old Trafford for the first time, featuring in Darren Fletcher’s U18s side.

The youngster has been at United since he was 11-years-old, so it was a major milestone to play at the Theatre of Dreams for the first time.

Speaking about his son’s milestone moment on his BBC podcast The Wayne Rooney Show, United’s all-time top scorer revealed the four words Kai said on their journey home following the match: “The pitch was massive.”

He added: “Steven Gerrard always used to say to me how big the Old Trafford pitch is, which it actually isn’t because it’s the same maximum size as a lot of grounds in the Premier League.

“But the surroundings make it feel bigger.”
