Manchester United's pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo stalls after Brentford increases their asking price for the Cameroon international.

Manchester United's quest to sign Bryan Mbeumo has reportedly stalled after Brentford increased their asking price for their talismanic attacker.

The Red Devils have spent considerable time working on a deal to add Mbeumo to Ruben Amorim's squad ahead of the new season.

It was reported on Tuesday that Man United have reached an agreement with Brentford over a transfer for the Cameroon international.

However, The Guardian is reporting that the two clubs are yet to agree a deal with the Bees due to differences over the player's valuation.

Man United's Mbeumo pursuit stalls

The report claims that Man United believed at the end of June that it would take £65m to prise Mbeumo away from the Gtech Community Stadium.

However, Brentford have increased their valuation to around £70m, which is proving to be a stumbling block in negotiations.

There is a belief that discussions have 'stalled' between the two clubs, with the Red Devils reluctant to go above the £65m mark.

Man United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and director of football Jason Wilcox are ready to be patient in their pursuit of Mbeumo and will not 'be held to ransom' in negotiations with Brentford.

From Brentford's perspective, they feel under no obligation to compromise on their asking price because there is a one-year option in Mbeumo's contract, which is currently set to expire at the end of the 2025-26 campaign.

Why outgoings could affect Mbeumo pursuit

Man United are showing a clear reluctance to meet Brentford's valuation, but even if they change their stance, they may need to sanction departures to generate extra funds for their pursuit

The 20-time English champions are open to loan and permanent offers for Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia.

The quintet are not part of Ruben Amorim's plans for the upcoming season and have all asked to leave the club before the transfer window closes at the start of September.

Man United will be keen to offload the quintet as soon as possible and make swift progress in their efforts to strengthen Amorim's squad, with the new Premier League season set to get underway in just four weeks' time.
