Manchester United are set to face Leeds as the club look to secure a Champions League place

Manchester United are preparing to return to Premier League action against rivals Leeds United on Monday night. The team’s revival under manager Michael Carrick will also be a boost for the club’s summer transfer plans.

United sit third in the league table and look well-placed to secure a Champions League spot for next term. Returning to Europe’s premier club competition should help Carrick’s side convince their top transfer targets that United are heading in the right direction.

While much focus will be on potential new signings over the coming months, Carrick has been told that a returning Marcus Rashford could improve his squad. The England international is currently on loan at Barcelona, who have an option to buy the forward, but a permanent deal is yet to be finalised.

Meanwhile, United have been linked with a move for young Arsenal defender Myles Lewis-Skelly. Here, Mirror Football looks at some of the biggest headlines surrounding the club.

Marcus Rashford message

United boss Carrick has been told how Rashford could improve his team, should a permanent move to Barcelona fail to materialise. The 28-year-old has been clear about his desire to stay with the Catalan club, but Nicky Butt believes Rashford returning to Old Trafford remains a possibility.

"If he comes back, that will be a little golden nugget for Michael Carrick. One thing about Michael, he’ll know him as a person, he’ll know he's got his heart in the right place," club legend Butt told Paddy Power.

“Off the left-hand side, when Rashford's playing to the top of his ability, he's really tough to handle.

"I still think he's a top player. Whether or not he comes back and blows the club away, who knows? But he's got the ability to do that.”

Man Utd learn transfer price

Manchester United have learned Arsenal's stance on young left-back Myles Lewis-Skelly. The 19-year-old had a breakthrough season last year but has been limited to just two league starts this term, leading to speculation that he could leave the Gunners.

BBC Sport reports that Arsenal value Lewis-Skelly and fellow academy graduate Ethan Nwaneri at a combined £100million. It is claimed that the club are willing to consider selling the left-back, who has been competing with Piero Hincapie and Riccardo Calafiori for game time, provided their asking price is met.

United have reportedly identified Lewis-Skelly as a potential successor to Luke Shaw. Despite his lack of league starts, the teenager has made 29 appearances across all competitions this season.
