"He is a big unit": Wasim Akram praises Harshit Rana's bowling performance in India's first Test against Australia

Harshit Rana made his Test debut for India in the first Test against India on November 22 in Perth. He bowled testing overs and dismissed Travis Head with a delivery that came in a bit after pitching. Wasim Akram, the best-ever left-arm fast bowler in the history of cricket, lauded the young pacer, calling him a big unit.

The visiting team included two new players, Harshit and Nitish Kumar Reddy, in the playing XI, and they made an instant impression, with Reddy scoring an important 41 runs, which helped the India National Cricket Team to post 150 in their first innings.

Rana troubled the Aussie batters with his line and length and played a role in the rival team’s batting collapse, with the home team reaching /7 at stumps on Day 1. Akram saw Rana from close range as he is one of the commentators in the opening contest of the Border-Gavakar Trophy 2024-25.

“He is a big unit. I saw him practicing when I went to the ground after the end of India’s innings. Harshit Rana looks promising and can generate pace. He will get better with time. I am impressed with the way he has bowled so far,” Wasim Akram said on Star Sports.

For India, captain Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers, taking four wickets, while Mohammed Siraj added two scalps to his bowling figures.
