GettyThe unseeded Portuguese player would then take advantage to ice a 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 victory to advance in the first grand slam of the year.Speaking after the loss, Thompson explained that his worrisome foot hampered any chance of taking the match with Borges the distance."It was fine until probably 4-3 but I was getting outplayed to be honest," he said."That's the most disappointing part - I don't know if I was coming back, but I had a chance there. This is a tough one, an acute injury. Sometimes there's just nothing you can do about it."Thompson also admitted it was "not a good sign" that he aggravated the injury despite being on painkilling injections prior to his match with Borges.
