The new Sesko: INEOS ready to sanction Man Utd's 3rd biggest transfer ever

When Manchester United splashed the cash last summer, it was met with the usual skepticism.

The same fans welcoming Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko had also welcomed Rasmus Hojlund, Paul Pogba and other big-money signings in the past - most of which failed to even come close to reaching their true potential. So who could blame their caution?

To INEOS' credit, however, the one thing that they've started to get right since arriving is their recruitment. It is the department that they've improved the most at Old Trafford and Sesko is the biggest sign of that.

Man Utd ready to sign the next Sesko

6 foot 5 and just 22 years old with rapid acceleration, Sesko is just about the full package that any club in the Premier League would want in a striker, especially in the current era.

Just when out-and-out No.9s are back in fashion, Man United welcomed an undeniable gem, who is thriving under Michael Carrick.

Where Ruben Amorim struggled to hand the £74m man a reliable supply-line, much thanks to the deeper role that Bruno Fernandes was playing, Carrick has turned Man United into one of the most dangerous attacking sides in the Premier League, with Sesko certainly playing a part.

By moving Fernandes back into a creator's role, Carrick has got Sesko firing on all cylinders. The interim boss may be the first to claim that it's more complex than it sounds, but it has been a case of getting his creator in positions to create and his goalscorer in the position to score.

Sesko's touches in the opposition box have almost tripled, as have his shots per game. It's no wonder he's found his form and he could now get a new attacking partner this summer.

According to Sports Boom, INEOS are to sanction Man Utd's move to sign Yan Diomande this summer, which would be their third-biggest transfer of all time at £80m, just behind the signings of both Pogba and Antony, and level with Harry Maguire's 2019 addition.

The report suggests that United are battling Liverpool for the RB Leipzig starlet's signature, albeit with the hope that Sesko, having joined from the Bundesliga outfit, can make the difference in their pursuit of the teenager.

Why £80m Diomande would complete Man Utd's attack

It would be some statement if Man United signed Diomande ahead of Liverpool this summer. The door has opened for the Leipzig star to complete a move ever since the Red Devils reintroduced wingers to their system and there's no doubt that he's got the quality to complete their frontline.

The Premier League could certainly do with a player of Diomande's quality, too. English football has lacked flair all too often as of late, but the winger's take-on success would finally revive its wide men at a crucial time at Old Trafford.

With 10 goals and six assists to his name in the Bundesliga so far this season, the Leipzig star also has the output to go with his take-on success, which results in 4.18 dribbles per game.

There was a time when some at Man United would be doubting Bundesliga talent, but it wasn't so long ago that Sesko arrived from Leipzig, himself. And he's now thriving under a manager who has centred his system around a scintillating frontline.

Whether it's Carrick in charge next season remains the big question, though not a question that Diomande should be too concerned with. Whoever's in charge, he has shown enough to suggest that he's ready to take the Premier League by storm.

For INEOS, it represents another opportunity to get one over on rival clubs and showcase just how far their recruitment has come. From Sesko all the way to Senne Lammens last summer, they didn't get a single transfer wrong.
