Carlos Alcaraz crosses $40 million in prize money earnings, first 2000 player born to reach milestone

Carlos Alcaraz beat Lorenzo Musetti to lift the title at Monte Carlo Masters.

Carlos Alcaraz stitched together a winning run at the recently concluded Monte Carlo Masters, a first for the Spaniard at the venue. The ATP 1000 event held at the Monte-Carlo Country Club, is one of three clay-court Masters. Alongside the Madrid and the Italian Open, they are played back-to-back beginning from early April to late May, attract the cream of men’s tennis.

Until the Spaniard tasted victory in 2025 in Monaco, his two titles in Madrid was the only venue where he has registered a title run. Alcaraz fought back from an opening set deficit thrice before he could lay his hands on the trophy. These were against Francisco Cerundolo (3-6, 6-0, 6-1), Arthur Fils (4-6, 7-5, 6-3) and Lorenzo Musetti (3-6, 6-1, 6-0).

The 21-year-old is the youngest since to join the $40 million club in prize money earnings after winning his sixth ATP 1000 title and maiden crown in Monte-Carlo. This also makes Alcaraz the first among players born in the 2000s to get to the milestone and the only one to have pocketed more than $40 million among his peers.

Jannik Sinner with earnings of $39 million and Iga Swiatek who has earned $35 million follow close behind. Coco Gauff ($23 million) and Felix Auger-Aliassime ($15 million) complete the list of top five earners born from 2000 onwards.

Alcaraz, who has also reclaimed the World No. #2 position, is only one of 11 players in ATP or WTA history to go past the $40 million mark. Unsurprisingly, the top three spots go to Novak Djokovic ($186 million), Rafael Nadal ($134 million), and Roger Federer ($130).

WTA players Serena Williams ($94 million), her sister Venus ($42 million) and Simona Halep ($40 million) are the highest earning women on tour.

Alcaraz was making his championship-round debut at the tournaments he has won this season. Before his title run at Monte-Carlo, the Spaniard defeated Alex de Minaur at the Rotterdam Open in February on his first trip to the venue.

The young Spaniard has returned home to take part in the Barcelona Open, where he is the top seed. He will take on American qualifier Ethan Quinn in the opening round. Alcaraz is seeded to reach Monte-Carlo semi-finalist Arthur Fils in the last four and defending champion Casper Ruud in the finals.
