This is an opportunity Everton won’t want to let pass them by as they bid to bolster their European qualification aspirations with a Premier League win over Burnley, but a seven-game winless run at their new home, the Hill Dickinson Stadium, may temper some of that enthusiasm.

The Toffees are up to eighth after Saturday’s 3-2 win away at Newcastle whereas things are getting desperate for Burnley, who are eight points adrift of safety following their 4-3 loss at home to Brentford.

Everton vs Burnleypreview

Everton’s Premier League trip to Burnley in December ended in a goalless draw but there was no shortage of chances and the return fixture at the Hill Dickinson Stadium could make up for the lack of goals.

Relegation has long been looming for Burnley and with ten games to go there is no point in them going down guessing, something which has been evident in their recent fixtures.

The Clarets have been playing with much more attacking freedom and, having found themselves 3-0 down after 34 minutes at home to Brentford on Saturday, they may feel aggrieved to have ended up empty handed.

Burnley clawed themselves back to 3-3, only to be undone by Mikkel Damsgaard’s injury-time winner, and they also had two second-half goals disallowed.

Both teams have scored in eight of Burnley’s last ten matches and, despite their precarious position, there is no lack of character as they have come from behind to beat Crystal Palace and draw with Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool.

One win in 19 league games highlights a lack of defensive discipline and Everton will see this as a gilt-edged opportunity to strengthen their position.

However, the Toffees are still not look completely settled at the Hill Dickinson Stadium and they have not won any of their last seven games in their new surroundings, which includes 1-1 draws with bottom club Wolves and Leeds and a 4-2 defeat by Brentford.

Both teams have got on the scoresheet in eight of Everton’s last ten outings and, with Burnley seemingly now more open to attack, this fixture could be more entertaining than many would suspect.

Hannibal unlikely to shy away from battle

Burnley’s Hannibal Mejbri has collected five bookings in his last ten appearances for club and country and, for all his creative qualities, his fiery temperament can be his downfall.

The Tunisian international should be expecting some tough challenges from Everton’s hard-hitting midfield and he is likely to give as good as he gets.

Anthony overpriced to make his mark

Jaidon Anthony has been one of Burnley’s standout performers this season and he heads to Merseyside having scored four goals in his last nine appearances.

Having Zian Flemming back to provide support in the final third is bringing out the best in Anthony, who had five shots and got on the scoresheet in Saturday’s 4-3 loss to Brentford.

Dwight McNeil to have one or more shots on target

Dwight McNeil had four shots and hit the target twice in the weekend win at Newcastle, showing a professional side after his failed move away to Crystal Palace.

Vitalii Mykolenko to commit one or more fouls

Toffees left-back Vitalii Mykolenko has committed at least one foul in four of his last five league appearances and will have some pacy forwards to contend with.
