Digital Portal to Curb Age Fraud, Boost Governance in NWFL Premiership

The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has introduced a mandatory digital portal for player registration and club licensing ahead of the 2025/26 Premiership season, marking a major shift toward full digitisation of its administrative processes. The platform officially goes live on Friday, November 14, 2025.

The announcement was issued by NWFL Media Director Samuel Ahmadu, who described the initiative as part of the league’s broader reforms aimed at improving operational efficiency and strengthening regulatory compliance.

NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi, said the digital platform represents a significant upgrade to the league’s governance framework.

“This platform is designed to eliminate manual delays, minimise documentation errors, and provide real-time oversight of all registration activities,” Shabi stated. “It is an important step toward making the NWFL more efficient and globally competitive.”

She added that the system’s verification functions would help curb recurring infractions, including age falsification, dual registration, and irregular player movement.

“The system enables instant authentication of submitted documents. It strengthens integrity, ensures accountability, and aligns the league with international best practices,” she said.

Shabi also revealed that the initiative received strong backing from club representatives during the recent NWFL Congress in Port Harcourt. Delegates unanimously endorsed the digital transition as vital for enhancing organisational standards and reinforcing league structures.

Under the updated NWFL Registration and Club Licensing Regulations, all clubs must complete their registration exclusively through the new digital portal between November 14 and 21, 2025.

Required documentation for player registration includes national identification, passport photographs, verified age records, academic credentials, medical fitness reports, and digitally signed contracts. Club licensing requirements cover coaching qualifications, stadium certification, audited financial statements, ownership records, and proof of youth development programmes.

According to the NWFL secretariat, the digital system is also expected to boost the league’s commercial appeal by improving transparency, data accuracy, and administrative professionalism—key factors in attracting sponsors, partners, and international collaborations.
