Wayne Rooney explains why Bruno Fernandes is often at fault for giving the ball away in games, while stressing that the reason for it makes the Manchester United captain the best player in the Premier League.

Bruno Fernandes has enjoyed a superb run of form, which has resulted in the Manchester United talisman winning the Premier League Player of the Month award for the sixth time in March.

In doing so, Fernandes equalled Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of six Premier League Player of the Month awards.

Fernandes will be aiming to replicate his impressive form in April as United attempt to secure Champions League qualification.

Wayne Rooney admires Bruno Fernandes’ willingness to take risks

Fernandes is often guilty of giving away possession in the final third.

The Portuguese Magnifico is renowned for creating match-defining moments, and that wouldn’t be the case if he weren’t willing to take risks in games.

Rooney has explained that Fernandes only gives the ball away due to his willingness to take risks in games, and without that trait, he wouldn’t be among the best players in the Premier League.

Speaking on The Wayne Rooney Show, United’s all-time top scorer said: “There’s no point in being safe. You know how many times you go to football and it’s backwards or sideways.

“Bruno is arguably the best player in the Premier League this season, and he gives the ball away a lot.

“He takes risks, but then the outcome of it is, you know, these moments we’re seeing from him. That’s the outcome of it.”

Fernandes has 17 assists across all competitions this season, as well as eight goals.
