2 Road Win at Syracuse

SYRACUSE, Ny. (SMU) – The SMU women's tennis team completed the weekend road sweep with a 4-2 win at Syracuse (5-6, 1-3 ACC) on Sunday. The Mustangs won their third ACC match of the season and improved to 9-4 overall in dual play.

SMU continued to show its dominance in doubles, securing another doubles point against the Orange with wins on courts one and two. The Mustangs' No. 10-ranked pair, Amelie Van Impe and Caroline McGinley, improved to 10-0 and earned their fourth ranked win of the spring with a 6-2 win over No. 57 Anastasia Sysoeva and Nelly Knezkova of Syracuse.

That win was followed up by a 6-4 decision on court two by Sophie Llewellyn and Natalie Stasny, who improved to 8-2 in the spring as a tandem.

Addison Comiskey got back on track with a win on court six to add another point for the Mustangs in singles. Comiskey defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-4 and earned her sixth singles win in dual play and second against an ACC foe.

Syracuse got a point back with a win on court five, but Sophie Llewellyn took care of business on court two, winning 6-4, 6-3 to put the Mustangs within one point of the clinch. Llewellyn earned her eighth singles win of the spring season, tied for the most on the team.

The Orange collected another win on court five, but SMU had firm control on the top two courts. With point courts at match point in the second set, Caroline McGinley clinched the match for SMU for the second consecutive outing, winning 6-4, 7-5 on court three to give SMU a 4-2 win.

McGinley went a perfect 2-0 on the day, 4-0 in the Mustangs' two matches this week and is now 21-2 across doubles and singles in dual match play.
